BIO|OPTIONS provides human tissues and biological materials to researchers and scientists for molecular and genomic research. These high-quality, well-characterized biological specimens are available for drug and biomarker discovery, validation of drug targets, and development of diagnostic tests and devices.
We specialize in providing fresh tumor tissue, blood, and other biological fluids delivered the same day or overnight for your studies from our extensive network of physicians, hospitals, and clinical laboratories. We also provide frozen and FFPE samples via our considerable biorepository. Our biospecimens are collected at facilities throughout the United States in compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations and ethical guidelines.

Lawrence Blocher, M.D., J.D.
Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Blocher is a licensed physician and attorney with over 25 years of experience in healthcare and medical science as both a practicing physician and attorney. Since 2001, he has been assisting researchers at all the leading biotech, pharma, and academic research centers in obtaining human biospecimens for their studies. Dr. Blocher has extensive knowledge and experience in all aspects of tissue procurement, from procuring samples in an operating room to preparing and reviewing samples by the pathologist, and the regulatory and ethical issues involving the use of these specimens for research. As an entrepreneur, Dr. Blocher has been an officer and founder at several healthcare related companies and understands what it takes to get things done. Dr. Blocher received his M.D. from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and completed his surgical internship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, TX. He also obtained his J.D. at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, Texas.
Thomas J. Cooper Jr., M.D., FCAP
Executive Vice-President, Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Cooper is a pathologist with over 20 years’ experience in private practice in Los Angeles. With this experience, Dr. Cooper consults with our biotechnology and pharmaceutical research partners to help develop study protocols that accurately reflect real world capabilities for the procurement of biospecimens that meet researchers’ needs. He then works closely with his fellow pathologists to ensure that the samples are of the highest quality. Dr. Cooper has served as the laboratory director of several hospitals in the Los Angeles area, and in addition has served as CLIA laboratory director for a number of start-up companies within the laboratory industry, including PLUS Diagnostics, Cynogen and Epinex Diagnostic Laboratories. He has also held numerous leadership positions in local, state, and national medical societies, including the Los Angeles Medical Association, the American Medical Association, and the College of American Pathologists, where he served as a Speaker for the House of Delegates and a member of the Board of Governors.
During the Vietnam War, he served as a Navy Hospital Corpsman and laboratory technician as a member of the Navy’s Biological Warfare Decontamination Team at Ft. Detrich in Frederick, Maryland. Subsequently, Dr. Cooper graduated cum laude from the University of California at Santa Cruz. He received his medical degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Jalisco, Mexico. Following a rotating / family practice internship at the Harbor General / UCLA Medical Center, his pathology residency was completed at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. Dr. Cooper is certified by the American Board of Pathology in both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
